9/11 General Strike
There are a lot of ways to observe the tragic anniversary of September 11th.
Through my Facebook network, I recently discovered the 9/11/07 General Strike. I dutifully joined the Facebook group to indicate my intention to joint he strike, but I think that since my day job is working for peace and justice, I think I should keep at it tomorrow. In fact, I think I will try to post a bunch here on the blog as my way of remembering. What will you be doing tomorrow?
Imagine if Americans could mobilize like Spaniards did after the Madrid train bombings. 11 million people (28% of the population) took to the streets.
If not now, when? A plain and simple question to every American who sees and senses the grave and urgent threat as fascism tightens its grip on our country.
This Tuesday, 9/11/07 and continuing until we get truth and justice, shall we all become, as Martin Luther King puts it, “Drum Majors for Justice.”
The General Strike is not just about one day of dissent; it’s about a mass mobilization that will mark a turning point. If you can, keep on striking indefinitely. But more realistically, take this action as an inspiration to work activism into your everyday life, let go of fear and pessimism and fight for justice with a sense of power and purpose.

By the way, the http://www.strike911.org website is a great resource for activists and provides lots of ways to share information with other grassroots supporters. (Although it does rely a bit too much on dynamic AJAX technology, which makes permalinking impossible.) Anyway, it's a great design and an effective campaign. Well done!
